Public Sector Companies are owned by the Union Government of India or by the State Government. There are many PSU’s in India, and here is a list of Top Ten Public Sector Companies in India.
10. Power Grid Corporation of India
It is an electric utility company and it was founded in the year 1989. It has its headquarters in Gurgaon. Initially, the company was called National Power Transmission Corporation Limited and later on changed its name to Power Grid. They provide transmission to the central power sector and also establish and operate the regional and national power grids across the country. Their net income is Rupees. 4547.58 crore.
9. Rural Electrification Corporation Limited
It is a public company, founded in1969. It has its headquarters in New Delhi and it provides finance and promotes the rural electric projects of India. It has a total of 13 projects and has five offices. They also support other companies financially. The facilities of this company includes technical and financial appraisal of the project, short-term loans, project monitoring, project finance, etc. The net income of this company is Rupees. 4741.25 Crore
8. Power Finance Corporation
It is the financial spine of the Indian Power Sector. It was founded in the year 1986 and it has its headquarters in New Delhi. It is also certified under the ISO. Their objective is to provide finance to other power projects, provide finance to the infrastructure that lack electric power. The net income of PFC is Rupees 5461.84 Crore.
7. National Mineral Development Corporation
It is a government company and they produce mineral. It has its headquarters in Hyderabad and the ministry of steel controls it. It is also the largest producer and exporters of Iron Ore in India. Apart from that, the company is also involved in copper, graphite, limestone, gypsum and many other stones. The net income of this company is Rupees 6413.08 Crore.
6. Indian Oil Corporation Limited
It is owned by the state of New Delhi and it is one of the largest Oil and Gas companies in India. The Government has around 60 percent of the total stake and the rest is public. They manufacture various products and sell it as Indane Gas, Auto Gas, Xtra Mile, Servo, Indian Oil Aviation and LNG at doorstep. The nest income of this company is Rupees 6966.58 Crore.
5. Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited
It is a telecommunication company and they provide their services in New Delhi, Mumbai and also Mauritius. It was founded in the year 1986 and it has its headquarters in New Delhi They have various brands like Trump, Dolphin and Garuda all with different plans and tariffs. The net income of this company is Rupees 7820.72 Crore.
4. National Thermal Power Corporation
It is an electric Company and is owned by the Government and comes under the Ministry of Power. It is located in almost 55 regions in the country and along with that it is also located in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. NTPC is one of the leading PSU’s in the country. The Net Income of this Company is Rupees 11,403.40 Crore.
3. State Bank Of India
The Government of India owns it, and it is one of the largest Companies in the country. It has its headquarters in Mumbai. It was formed in the year 1921 when the bank of Calcutta, Madras and Bombay merged together. But in the year 1960 RBI bought 60 percent of its stake and renamed it to State Bank of India. The Net Income of SBI is Rupees 14,489.47 Crore.
2. Coal India Limited
It is a government company and it has its headquarters in Kolkata. It manufactures more than 80 percent of the total coal. It is the Second Largest Public Sector Company in India. They also have a subsidiary in Mozambique, which is called as Coal India Africana Limitada. The Net Income of this Company is Rupees 15,111.63 Crore.

It is a multinational Company of India and it ranks number one in our list of top ten PSU Companies in India. It has its headquarters in Dehradun and it was founded in the year 1956. They have their presence in many other countries as well including Brazil, Cuba, Venezuela, Columbia, Iraq, Syria, Libya and many more countries. The nest income of ONGC is Rupees 26,653.02 Crore.
