Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated each year on the 2nd of October. This is the birthday of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi who is considered to be the ‘Father of the Nation’. Mahatma Gandhi was known to use non violent methods to fight injustice. 2nd October is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti in India is also celebrated as ‘International Day Of Non Violence’ all over the world since 2007.
Gandhi Jayanti is a public holiday and is one of the three official national holidays in India.
The day is observed to pay respects and tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. There are various celebrations across schools, colleges and offices to mark this day. Gandhi’s efforts are considered to be the main reason why India got freedom and he is one of the most peaceful freedom fighters there ever was.
