History of Guwahati
The name of the city, Guwahati, comes from two Assamese words that are Guwa meaning areca nut and “Haat” meaning market. The city had experienced various invasions specifically the Mughal invasions that attacked it for 17 times but they were defeated and became a part of British Indian Empire in the year of 1826. But it survived the clashes of the world became an active site Indian Independence Movement.
After the independence of Indian Subcontinent, Guwahati became the capital state of Kamarupa the ancient state that was under the dynasty of Pala.
