Bandhavgarh has its mention in a number of historical legends and is also mentioned in the Ramayana. The literal translation of Bandhavgarh means brother and fort. The reason this place was given this name is because it is believed that this land was gifted to Lakshmana by his brother Lord Rama. This fort is considered to be one of the most beautiful creations of Mankind in Hinduism.

There are over 250 species of birds and 22 species of mammals at Bandhavgarh. Some of the animals include common Langurs and Rhesus Macaque. You will also find the Sloth Bear, the Ratel, Gray Mongoose, Striped Hyena, Jungle Cat, Leopard and the Tiner to name a few. There are also a number of Wild Pigs, Spotted Deer, Sambar, Chausingha, Nilgai, Chinkara, Dhole, the small Indian Civet, Palm Squirrel and Gaur to name a few. Best Time To Visit
If you’re planning to visit Bandhavgarh you should plan your holiday in accordance to the national park timings. The park is open to visitors between 15th of October to 30th of June. It remains closed during the monsoon since it is not safe during this time of the year. It is closed all of July to October. Bandhavgarh is also open from March to May which is the best time to visit the park since this is when most of the vegetation is dry and it becomes easy to spot the animals.
