About Alibaug
The history of the town of Alibaug can be traced back to the 17th century. This town was created by the naval chief of King Shivaji’s regime. This city was planned and created during that era. While Alibaug is a well-developed city today, most of the city was under the sea at that point in time. There were a number of coconut and betel-nut plantations which are not as prominent these days, but where popular during the early days. Alibaug was earlier known as ‘Kolaba’ which was dedicated to the Kolaba Fort, built by Shivaji in 1680.
There was a Muslim man called Ali, who owner a number of plantations in the town which is why he renamed it ‘Alibaug’ which refers to Ali’s garden.

Best Time To Visit
While tourist flood Alibaug all year around, it is best to visit the town between November to July. Avoiding the rains is a good idea since Alibaug receives heavy rainfall that can prevent you from exploring the town to the fullest.
