Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been famous in Bollywood for making films of grandeur and magnificence and “Bajirao Mastani” takes the opulence to the next level, after films like “Devdas” and “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam”. “Bajirao Mastani” is a historical movie based on the love life of Peshwa Baji Rao 1, the brave Maratha warrior. The movie has been directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali who has co-produced it along with Kishore Lulla, under the banner of SLB Films. Bhansali has also composed the music of the movie. “Bajirao Mastani” has been made with the tumultuous budget of Rs 120 crore.

Release Date

“Bajirao Mastani” will be released in Hindi and Marathi, on 18th December, 2015. Its teaser was released on 16th July, 2015. The release will coincide with that of Shahrukh Khan and Kajol starrer “Dilwale”, which is expected to give it tough competition.

Star Cast

Ranvir Singh and Deepika Padukone play the titular roles of Bajirao and Mastani respectively, and this is the second time Sanjay Leela Bhansali has chosen these two actors as the lead pair, after the success of “Ram Leela- Goliyon ki Rasleela”. Priyanka Chopra plays the third character in this love triangle, carrying the role of Kashibai, the first wife of Peshwa Bajirao. Others in the star cast include Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Anuja Gokhale, Sukhada Khandkekar, Milind Soman and Sanjay Mishra.


“Bajirao Mastani” narrates the story of the historical romance between the Maratha rule Peshwa Bajirao and the warrior princess, Mastani, who goes on to become his second wife while Kashibai is his first wife. Bajirao was a man knoen for his supreme courage and valor and this movie throws light on the relatively untouched aspect of his life. All the actors have undergone extensive training in Marathi language as well as martial arts to showcase their characters to perfection. They have also worked hard on their looks, with Ranvir Singh and Tanvi Azmi going to the extent of going completely bald by shaving off their heads. Most of it has been shot in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Whether the audience would be enticed by the sheer grandeur or the thrilling story of “Bajirao Mastani” and whether the movie will be able to make it big in the Indian cinema, will all be seen in the month of December.
