Airtel Super Singer-Thamizhagathin Brahmaandakuralukkana Thedai is a popular reality singing competition in Tamil. The show is aired on Vijay TV and is sponsored by mobile service Bharti Airtel, which has its name attached with the show. The aim of the show is to find the best singing talent in South Indian state of Tamil Nadu and selects the contestants on the basis of auditions carried out throughout the state. The finalists then have to go through a series of theme based rounds carried on every week of the show till its reaches its grand finale stage. The winners as well as finalists of Airtel Super Singer get offers for playback singing in Tamil film industry as well as cash prize, real estate and gold, which makes this show a highly prestigious one.
Till date, four seasons of Airtel Super Singer have been aired, the first one beginning in 2006. Here is a list of winners of all seasons of Airtel Super Singer:
Season 1 (2006)
The first season of Airtel Super Singer went on air on 28th April, 2006 the show was hosted by noted playback singer Chinmayi and the judges’ panel consisted of playback singers Anuradha Sriram, Unnikrishnan and Srinivas. The contestants who reached the final stages pof the show were specially trained by voice expert Ananth Vaidyanathan. The season winner was Nikhil Matthew, who went on to make his singing debut in Tamil film industry with a film called “Bheema”. Anitha V Karthikeyan bagged the first runner up and viewers’ choice award, while Sowmya Mahadevan won the Jury’s Choice award.
